Now, how do I know what your personality is like so I can tell you the random object? You’ll answer seven multiple-choice questions about your personality. They’ll be about what you like or what you’d do in a certain situation. Select the answer that applies to you best. The Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23 tells us what the fruit of the Spirit is. I love this passage so much that I put it on my top ten favorite Bible verses and passages! They matter because they tell us if we’re walking according to the Spirit or not.

Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Let me share some Bible verses I found that tell a bit more about these fruits! I’ll also share how it applies to us.

Love

There is a whole chapter on love! It’s 1 Corinthians 13. I won’t share the whole thing here, but you can click here to read it on Bible Gateway! It starts by telling us how important love is. You can be super smart and wise, but without love, it’s literally useless! This passage also tells us that love is kind, patient (another fruit!), and humble.

The second passage is 2 Timothy 1:7:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

This also tells us that being filled with the Holy Spirit gives us love! Love is a really good thing, so now we know that we can have love by being filled with the Holy Spirit! Let’s move on to joy!

Joy

When I think of joy, I think of Nehemiah 8:10, which tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. Isn’t it crazy that when the devil steals our joy, he steals our strength?! Yeah, let’s not let that happen! Let’s let the Spirit give us joy!

Peace

A few months ago, I had an October Bible Study Challenge on Philippians 4:6-7. This passage says:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The fruit of the Spirit helps us recognize whether something is from God or not. So when something doesn’t give me the peace that Philippians 4:6-7 talks about, I know that it’s not from God.

Patience

Yeah, I’ve been working on this one. Let me share a verse that has helped me be patient! It’s Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. It says that there’s a time for everything. That means things will come when they come. We should live in the present and do what we can right now.

Kindness

The Bible is full of acts of kindness. Jesus died for us as an act of kindness! The verse about kindness that I want to share is found in Proverbs 3. Proverbs 3:3-4 says:

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!
Tie them around your neck as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.
Then you will find favor with both God and people,
and you will earn a good reputation.

I did a Bible Study Challenge on this one in March. This passage tells us to never let loyalty and kindness leave us because they bring favor with God and people! The best part is that when we’re filled with the Holy Spirit and let Him work in us, we become kind. That means we’ll find favor!

Goodness

Now it’s time to share about goodness! What is goodness, though? I learned that goodness is like righteousness. I’ve read a lot of Bible verses about righteousness (if you want to read the whole Bible in a year, click here to find out how!). One of them is Proverbs 28:1:

The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions.

Righteousness, or goodness, makes you as bold as a lion! That’s so cool!

Faithfulness

What comes to my mind when I think of faithfulness is the parable found in Luke 19:11-27. In this parable, a king gives ten servants silver to invest while he is away. The first servant earns ten times more. The second five times more. The last one didn’t do anything. The king rewarded the ones who invested, but punished the lazy servant who did nothing. The ones who were faithful with the little proved that they could be faithful with the much.

This means to me that we have to be faithful with the little if we want to be given more from God.

Gentleness

Gentleness may seem weak, but it’s actually good to have some gentleness. Matthew 10:16 tells us to be as shrewd as serpents, but as harmless as doves. That means we should be wise and bold, but gentleness is still important. It comes from the Holy Spirit!

Self-Control

For this part on self-control, we need to go back to 2 Timothy 1:7. It says that the Spirit gives us love, power, and self-discipline. Self-control comes from the Holy Spirit. Every time I need self-control, I ask the Holy Spirit to help me. It takes self-control to have love, joy, peace, and all of the other fruits, so I always prioritize self-control.
