These are my Christmas snowball popcorn balls that are so delicious. They are great for parties or as a snack. They are super cute and very fun to make. I made these, and everyone liked them. Before we start, here are a few things you should know before making these.
Tips for these Christmas Snowball Popcorn Balls
Work Quick!
For these popcorn balls, you’ll need to work quickly. If you don’t, they’ll firm up and become almost impossible to work with! Here’s how you can avoid this. Gather everything you’ll need before you start. Trust me, this step is crucial. Prepare everything in bowls before you start. This makes the process quicker and easier.
Don’t Let the Marshmallows Caramelize
Do NOT let the marshmallows caramelize while they melt. If the bottom starts to become golden brown, take it off the heat. If there are still some unmelted marshmallow bits, turn down the heat and stir vigorously. You know how when making pancakes, the outside is burned, but the inside is raw? Yeah, that’s the same thing here. Turn the heat down so that it melts evenly.
Use Greased Gloves
Using greased gloves is the best way to shape these after adding the popcorn and sprinkles. Without them, your hands will become a mess! We don’t want that, so use greased gloves.
Let the Popcorn Balls Cool Before Adding Powdered Sugar
Letting them cool before adding powdered sugar ensures that the sugar doesn’t dissolve and become a glaze. This would make the popcorn balls sticky. That would be so sad :(. So, let the popcorn balls cool.
Make Sure Your White Chocolate Drizzle is Thin Enough
One tablespoon of butter or coconut oil should be good for the amount of chocolate, but it may not be for you. If the white chocolate drizzle is too thick, add more butter or coconut oil. Then, it should be good!
Questions and Answers!!!

Let me answer some questions you may have about making these.
- Question: Can I use coconut oil instead of butter for the marshmallow goo? Answer: I don’t know, but I’d stick to using butter.
- Question: What if the powdered sugar doesn’t stick? Answer: If it doesn’t, then you may need to add more powdered sugar to the plate or bowl that you’re dipping them in. The marshmallows are sticky, so powdered sugar should stick.
- Question: What sprinkles should I use? Answer: I used blue sanding sugar and sprinkles from a winter sprinkle pack. You can use whatever sprinkles you want as long as they are similar colors. If you use colors that don’t match, they could mix and make a weird color.
- Question: Are they messy? Answer: They are a bit messy, but letting them cool completely before eating makes them less messy and sticky.
- Question: Can I store these? Answer: You CAN, but they are much better eaten at that moment. They may get soggy or stale after sitting out for a few hours. So, make these the day of a party instead of the day before.
