Ingredients

Filling

  • 6 apples
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Crust

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cups cold butter (plus more for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12-14 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  • First, peel the apples and slice them into thin slices. Mix the apple slices with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
6 apples, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Next, make the crust by combining the salt, flour, and butter with a fork or pastry blender. You know it's good when the butter is about the size of a pea. Then, add the water one tablespoon at a time. Don't pour it in all at once!!! Add water where there is dry flour.
1 1/3 cups cold butter, 1 teaspoon salt, 12-14 tablespoons cold water, 4 cups flour
  • Then, press the crust into a pie pan. Make the layer thin so it cooks, but not too thin. Make sure that it reaches the top. Add the apple filling on top of the bottom crust layer, and top it with two tablespoons of butter. Roll out more dough for the top crust layer. Place it on top. With a fork, crimp the ends the the pie so that it looks cute and doesn't fall apart. With a sharp knife, cut five or six slits in the top crust layer.
  • Finally, bake it in a 400-degree oven for 50 minutes. Let it cool, slice it, and enjoy!
