February 2026 Bible Study Challenge: Mark 12:28-34 Part Two

It’s time for the February 2026 Bible Study Challenge: Mark 12:28-34 Part Two! Share your observation of part one and I will too!

“Girl shall not live on cookies alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God,” or something like that. Welcome to the February 2026 Bible Study Challenge: Mark 12:28-34 Part Two! It’s February 28th, meaning it’s time to share what we observed this month from the February 2026 Bible Study Challenge Part One. If you have not done part one already, please do it now so you can share what you observed. Is it completed? Great! Let’s dive into the Word, girlies!

Reminder of Mark 12:28-34

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

Reminder of the Three Main Questions

  1. The greatest commandment is to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths. How can we follow the greatest commandment?
  2. The second greatest commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves. What does this mean to you, and how do we do this?
  3. Based on what Jesus said to the teacher of the law’s reply, why are these commandments so important? Why should we follow them?

My Observation

This is my observation from the Bible study we had this month. It’s ok if yours is different as long as you still include answers to all three Main Questions. We’re all different, so of course we’re gonna see different aspects of this passage that speak to us! Ok, let me share my answers to all three Main Questions!

The greatest commandment is to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths. How can we follow the greatest commandment?

I can follow the greatest commandment, which is loving God with everything in me, by making God my priority. In money (Matthew 6:33), time, and everything, I should put God first. This means tithing, reading my Bible and praying first thing in the morning, and acknowledging God in everything (Proverbs 3:5-6). The amazing thing about putting God first is that His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30). God should always be my priority, and that’s how I can follow the greatest commandment.

The second greatest commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves. What does this mean to you, and how do we do this?

The second greatest commandment, love your neighbor as yourself, means to me that you should treat others the way you want to be treated (Luke 6:31). I can do this by helping out, choosing not to be rude, and encouraging others. I observe that the fruit of the Spirit includes love, patience, kindness, goodness, and gentleness (Galatians 5:22-23). That means when someone is filled with the Holy Spirit, they bear kindness and love their neighbors. That’s why it’s so important to fan into flame the spiritual gift (2 Timothy 1:6). I can follow the second greatest command by treating others the way I want to be treated, which the Holy Ghost empowers me to do.

Based on what Jesus said to the teacher of the law’s reply, why are these commandments so important? Why should we follow them?

These commandments are so important because they bring me closer to the kingdom of God. God always knows what’s best for me, so I should follow His commandments, especially the greatest two. As the teacher of the law said, keeping God as a priority and loving my neighbor is better than any offering. God loves obedience more than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). Love is a powerful weapon.

Conclusion

That wraps up my observation of the February 2026 Bible Study Challenge: Mark 12:28-34 Part Two. Now it’s your turn to write your observation in the comments sections below! I can’t wait to hear from you! Though Valentine’s Day may be over, let’s remember to love God and our neighbors all year. Love is powerful and it’s what’s best for us. God knows everything, so we should trust His commands. Ok, that’s all. Bye, girlies!
