Your Mission

Your mission for this month is to have a Bible study on Mark 12:28-34. Grab something to write with, a piece of paper or notebook, and your Bible. Once you have all of that, you can start your Bible study of Mark 12:28-34! Make sure to write your:

Finally, please tell me your observation on February 28th. You don’t have to share it, but I would really love it if you did. That’s when I’ll share my observation! Ok, now that you know your mission, let’s start!

Mark 12:28-34 NIV (read it on Bible Gateway by clicking here!):

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

Three Main Questions

It’s February, the month of love! It’s time for candy, hearts, cards, and more fun activities! What’s even better is the fact that it’s the perfect time for a Bible study about love! I chose Mark 12:28-34 because it talks about the greatest and second-greatest commandments. The greatest commandment is to love God with all that’s in you. The second greatest is to love your neighbor as yourself. Both of them are about love, which is perfect since Valentine’s Day is coming up! Let’s talk more about the verses that we’re studying.

Mark 12:28-34 starts with a teacher of the law asking Jesus which commandments are most important because Jesus had given other people amazing answers previously during that chapter. Jesus said that loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength is the most important law. He then said that loving your neighbor as yourself is the second most important. The guy replied to Jesus, saying that following these commands is better than any burnt offering. Jesus agreed with him and said that the teacher in the law was not far from the kingdom of God. Ok, it’s time for the three Main Questions!

  1. The greatest commandment is to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths. How can we follow the greatest commandment?
  2. The second greatest commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves. What does this mean to you, and how do we do this?
  3. Based on what Jesus said to the teacher of the law’s reply, why are these commandments so important? Why should we follow them?

Ok, now that you have the three Main Questions, it’s time to write your observation, application, and prayer!

Observation, Application, and Prayer

First, write your observation. What do you observe from Mark 12:28-34? Include the answers to the three Main Questions.

Next, write your application. How can you apply this to your life?

Finally, write a prayer based on your observation and application.

That’s All! See You on the 28th of February!

Thank you so much for participating in the February 2026 Bible Study Challenge: Mark 12:28-34 Part One! Now, all you have to do is wait for February 28th to share your Bible study observation. See you then! That’s all! Bye, girlies!
