Summer is the best time for us tweens and teens to explore activities and try new things. There’s so much potential, but I know that it’s really hard to fulfill that potential without a guide. It’s really easy to just be bored all summer and waste it all away on a device. That’s why I have 25 fun summer bucket list ideas for tweens and teens in 2026!

I’ll divide the 25 ideas into five groups to make the list more organized:

These ideas will help you have the most productive, boredom-free summer ever! Bucket lists are super important for avoiding wasted summers, keeping people from being bored, creating memories, and making summer intentional, so I hope you like these ideas. Don’t let your summer be wasted on a device! Ok, let’s dive in!

Athletic Activities

These are the athletic activities! Some require a group, and others don’t. These bucket list ideas are perfect if you like being active and outdoors during the summertime! Take a break from a device and go outside to have fun!

1. Summer Sunset/Sunrise Outdoor Walk

My first idea is a summer walk at sunrise or sunset. Bonus points if you do it at the beach! This was on my bucket list last year, and I had so much fun. Just remember to wear sunscreen and mosquito repellent, bring a friend, and drink water.

2. Pool Football

Pool football is really fun! This game is best if you have your own backyard pool so you don’t have to worry about getting in other people’s way. Use a football made for water if you have one. Add your own rules to make your game of football in a pool even more fun!

3. Beach Volleyball

Do you like playing volleyball? Well, summer is the best time to play beach volleyball! If you don’t live near the beach, that’s ok! You can just play it in your backyard. But many parks do have a sand volleyball court, which you could use. If you don’t have a net, just play in a circle or with an imaginary net. This is a great bucket list item!

4. Swimming Race

Summer is the best time to practice your swimming skills. What better way than to have a swimming race? This race can be against friends, family, or even yourself. Yeah, you can race against your previous records. Time yourself and race against the clock! If you have a large group of people, you can make it a relay race with different activities other than swimming. Watch your swimming skills improve this summer as you practice!

5. Lake Hike

Hiking around a lake is a really fun summer activity! It can be a lake at a park or a lake with a forest. You can bring summer snacks (try my rocky road trail mix recipe!) if you want to. Wear sunscreen, mosquito repellent, bring water, wear comfy shoes, and have fun!

DIY Projects

These DIY bucket list ideas are great for creative people who want to do DIY projects during the summer. Here, I’ll share DIY summer treats, crafts, and more!

6. Homemade Ice Cream in a Bag

Pour 1 cup half and half or heavy cream, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, optional 1/2 teaspoon almond extract or another flavor, and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a sandwich Ziploc bag. Get all of the air out, and seal very tightly. Put the sandwich bag in a gallon Ziploc filled with ice and 1/4 cup of salt.

With gloves, shake vigorously for about 10 minutes. Then, take the sandwich bag out of the gallon bag. The sandwich bag should be full of lovely vanilla ice cream! Finally, pour it onto a bowl or eat right out of the bag. Enjoy! Bonus points if you add toppings, like cookie dough, strawberries, or chocolate chips! That’s the best part about homemade stuff- you can customize them!

7. Beach Paintings

Even if you don’t live by the beach, beach paintings are still really fun to make! Grab a canvas, paint, paint brushes, water, a palette, sand, shells, and glitter. Start your painting with the sky. Make it light blue. Add fluffy clouds. You can even add birds.

Next, work on the beach. Basically, start with a dark blue where the beach and sky meet, and make it turn lighter and more turquoise as you get to the sand part at the bottom. Paint the bottom tan. You can add white for sea foam if you want to.

Now the fun part! Once it dries, put a very light layer of clear glue on the water. Sprinkle a tiny bit of glitter on the ocean water. It looks super pretty! Then, add glue to the tan, and sprinkle on some sand. When that all dries, you can glue on some shells. This is a really fun DIY project for your summer bucket list!

8. S’mores on a Campfire

This one is a no-brainer! S’mores are one of the best summer desserts! They are a lot of fun to make. Go outside and roast some marshmallows to make s’mores this summer! You can also roast hotdogs if you want to.

You may not be able to have a campfire in your backyard, but don’t worry! I have another option for you! There are many ways to make s’mores without real fire. For example, you could make s’mores in the oven or air fryer. There are no-bake s’mores recipes too. I have a strawberry s’mores edible cookie dough recipe that you can try out! They taste just as good as s’mores, but you don’t need to have a real fire!

9. Summer Bracelets and Jewelry

I love summer bracelets! They are so much fun because you get to design, create, and then actually use them! You could make necklaces or earrings, but bracelets are the easiest. Choose summer beads from a craft store. I liked tropical fruit beads for my summer bracelets. String the beads on the bracelet string. Finally, tie it really well, and wear them with any outfit!

10. Chocolate Dip and Frozen Fruit

A hot summer day outside. What better treat than chocolate dip and frozen fruit? Melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals until fully melted. Serve in a bowl on a fruit tray with frozen strawberries, frozen pineapple, frozen mango, frozen berries, frozen banana, and any other refreshing, frozen tropical fruits. Dip the frozen fruits in the chocolate and enjoy!

If you have dark chocolate, white chocolate, and milk chocolate, then you can melt all three, and have the ultimate fruit and chocolate platter! Remember to cover the tray when eating this treat outside because of insects.

11. DIY Tropical Lip Scrub

Lip scrubs are the easiest DIY skincare. Not only do they taste good, but they’re really good for chapped lips. The easiest way to make a tropical lip scrub is by mixing 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil, 1/2 teaspoon of honey, 3 drops of citrus fresh essential oil, and a tiny pinch of turmeric if you want a nice color. This is a great idea for a summer bucket list!

12. Beach Bucket Drink

Ever heard of a beach bucket drink? I made one last year for my summer bucket list, and it was a lot of fun! It’s the perfect summer recipe to do with friends. All you have to do is mix a 2-liter bottle of Sprite, one bottle of blue Gatorade, 6 packets of Pop Rocks, six boxes of Nerds or one box of Nerds gummy clusters, and watermelon Sour Patch Kids in a clean beach bucket. Finally, add 2 cups of ice, and carefully mix with a clean beach bucket shovel. Just remember not to overfill because your bucket may have been a different size than mine. It’s the perfect beach drink!

Friends and Family Activities

If you have a group, then you have to put these friends and family activities on your bucket list! Have fun making memories with your group!

13. Summer Picnic

Grab some chips, sandwiches, and lemon-strawberry cookie bars, because a summer picnic is a really fun item on your summer bucket list! Go to a park, lake, or anywhere else to have the best time ever with your friends or family! Bring a Frisbee, volleyball, or anything else to do with your friends. If the place you’re planning to go has picnic tables, that’s good. If not, bring a blanket.

14. Outdoor Movie Night

I did an outdoor movie night one summer night, and it was a lot of fun! I have a movie projector, so I just had to find an empty wall on my patio to set up the movie. Choose a movie that everyone likes, don’t forget the bug spray, wait till the sun goes down, sit back, and enjoy the movie!

15. Group Stargazing

Stargazing alone is fun, but with a group? It’s even more fun! Download an app that identifies stars and planets in the sky for you. This is really important! Now, go to a place with little light pollution, wait for the stars to come out, observe constellations, identify planets, and learn about the universe, all with your friends and family.

Productive Challenges

Yes, I know. Summer is supposed to be fun. But all that time has so much potential! And since we live in 2026, there are a lot of AI tools to help you complete these productive challenges! Have a productive summer by putting these items on your bucket list!

16. Write a Story

Writing a story is a very rewarding thing to put on your bucket list! Will your story become famous? Probably not (unless you really work on it). But will it still strengthen your writing skills, let creativity flow, and teach you new vocabulary words? Yes! I wrote a story last year for my summer bucket list. I like writing, so it was fun and taught me things. It was a great idea! You can use AI to help you brainstorm and edit, but don’t let it write it for you.

17. Read Non-Fiction Books

Is there a topic that just fascinates you? Maybe rocks, coding, the pyramids, microbes, medieval castles, or space. Identify those topics, and then use that curiosity to grow your mind. Choose 5 books about those topics to read this summer. They can be anything from picture books to whole textbooks. Trust me, reading non-fiction is worth it because it teaches you so many fascinating things.

18. Learn a Language

Does knowing two languages sound cool? Summer is a great time to start learning a language! If you’re already taking a language course, you can build on that. If you’re not, then you can still learn a lot of vocab in three months! Practice conversations with AI, watch movies in that language, and learn how to say the things you use every day.

19. Sell Things to Start a Business

Starting a business is not as scary as it sounds. Starting a business can just mean selling things, like bracelets or cookies, to people you know or at a market if you can. If you can’t do that, try selling things online. If this sounds interesting to you, just try it and see how it goes! Start small with just a few things and build up. No pressure!

20. Make a Short Film

Have you ever wanted to make a movie? Summer is a great time to do that! No, it doesn’t have to be 2 hours long. It can be only a few minutes long. Whether you’re interested in animation or live action, it doesn’t matter if you can’t spend a lot of time or money. Just try it out, even if the plot is sloppy and it’s extremely low budget. Especially with new AI tech, making films is the easiest it’s ever been! It’s worth a try!

Fun Challenges

This is the final category for my 25 fun summer bucket list ideas for tweens and teens in 2026! These are the fun challenges. Many of these require a group, but some do not. You can adjust these challenge ideas to fit your preferences and ability!

21. Ice Cream Challenge

This challenge is where you and a group of people go to an ice cream place. Each person is assigned another random person to order for. No one can know who others were assigned to. Then, each person orders ice cream for their person. The goal? Try to get something that you think they’ll like the best. After everyone gets their orders, each person reveals who they ordered for. You’ll give the ice cream to the person you were assigned, and they’ll rate it out of ten. The person whose item they ordered gets the highest rating wins!

22. Crafting Challenge

If you don’t have any craft supplies, this is the challenge for you! Be creative, and turn random things you can find into a beautiful final product! You can use paper towel rolls, a cardboard box, plastic bottles, and cans to make something cool. You can do this challenge alone or with others for more of a competition. Have fun!

23. No Recipe Challenge

Create a tropical summer treat without a recipe for your summer bucket list! For this challenge, you must make a tropical treat without using a recipe. It can be as simple as a cookie or as complex as a cake sculpture, but no recipes allowed. Do you accept this challenge?

Another alternative to this recipe could be inventing a tropical recipe. If you have a group, you can turn this into a contest. Use creativity and have fun!

24. Black and White Drawing Challenge

If digital art is your thing, you need to put this on your summer bucket list! Turn your device that you do digital art into black and white mode. Draw something (bonus points if it’s a summer thing) as you normally would, but you don’t know if the colors look good. At the reveal, turn your device back to normal mode and see how it looks.

25. Summer 2026 Memory Board

The final one of the 25 fun summer bucket list ideas for tweens and teens in 2026 is a memory board! I challenge you to create a board at the end of the season that captures your summer. Keep pictures, souvenirs, notes, and stickers all summer long. Then at the end of summer 2026, assemble a memory board with all of the things you’ve gathered. This can be a bulletin board, a folder (I did that one year), or even a book. You’ll have something that can help you remember this summer forever!

Now that you have all of the ideas, it’s time to make your bucket list! You can make it anything from a cute checklist with amazing handwriting and decor to a simple checklist in your notes app (that’s what I did). Make a list that you’ll see often so you remember what you want to do. You could even use AI to make a bucket list and schedule! “But what happens if I don’t complete it?” you may ask. That’s okay! At least you tried! And doing something is better than nothing! Don’t stress, make it fun with others, and see the results of your hard work!

Those are all 25 fun summer bucket list ideas for tweens and teens in 2026, and how to complete them! If you liked these ideas, comment below if you’re going to do any of them. Thanks for reading. That’s all. Bye, girlies!
