Why I Love This Recipe
I love this recipe because it tastes like rocky road ice cream, only you can pack it for trips. It’s the perfect thing to bring to hikes, road trips, and picnics. It’s pretty easy to make and store, so I can enjoy it anytime!
How To Make This Trail Mix
Here’s how to make this recipe. I’ll show a recipe card later.
First, chop the walnuts and measure out the other ingredients, like almonds, marshmallows, and chocolate chips on a cutting board.
I used almonds that were already sliced, so I didn’t have to chop them. If your almonds aren’t chopped or sliced, chop them too. This is also when I cut two s’mores marshmallows into pieces. I didn’t have mini marshmallows, so I cut two big ones into nine pieces each.
For chocolate chips, I used three tablespoons mini chocolate chips and three tablespoons regular ones. You can use whatever chocolate chips you have, including a chopped chocolate bar.
The final thing you have to do is mix the ingredients. The chocolate and nuts will sink to the bottom, while the marshmallows will stay at the top. Just mix it the best you can. Pack it in a bowl or ziploc bag. Try to keep it in a cool place so the chocolate and marshmallows don’t melt. And that’s it!
More About the Ingredients

I cut my jumbo marshmallows into nine pieces each, which is eighteen mini marshmallows in total. They were sticky since I had the cut them, so mini marshmallows are always better than cutting two jumbo ones.
For the nuts, modern rocky road ice cream usually has almonds and no walnuts. So then why did I choose to add walnuts to this recipe? When this ice cream flavor was invented during the Great Depression, they used walnuts. So, that’s why. But if you don’t have walnuts, you can just add extra almonds instead.
Frequently Asked Questions!!!
Can I use white chocolate? You technically can, but it won’t taste like rocky road ice cream.
Can I add pecans or peanuts instead? Of course! Almonds and walnuts are the classic flavors, but adding pecans or peanuts shouldn’t change the flavor too much.
How long is this trail mix good for? I’d say a week. If the marshmallows aren’t stale, nothing has melted, and there’s no mold, then it’s good. If something is melted, pop it in the freezer for a few minutes. It will taste even more like ice cream!
