How to Draw an Incredibly Easy Christmas Tree for Cards

Here is how to draw an incredibly easy Christmas tree for cards. Make a beautiful Christmas card for someone this Christmas!

Have you ever tried to draw a Christmas card, but the Christmas tree looked like a colorful triangle? If that’s you, don’t worry! I have a full tutorial for you on how to draw an incredibly easy Christmas tree for cards. Before we start, here are a few basics you need to know when drawing.

The Basics for Drawing this Christmas Tree

Here, we will discuss the basics of drawing this Christmas tree. This will cover shading and more. Let’s start!

The Shape

The shape of this Christmas tree is a three-layered triangle with ruffles. In order for it to look good, you must know how to draw the outline. So, here’s how to draw the shape. First, you need to draw the very top. It’s just a triangle without the bottom side. The bottom side is where the ruffles go. The ruffles are basically fancy half-circles. I will call them half-circles, but they are a bit different. There is more of a dip, and it should flow well instead of being like a box.

After the top layer, you’ll need to draw the next two layers. It’s just the same, but you need to draw it out of the previous layer’s two outermost crevices. They also have more ruffles. Each layer has one more layer than the previous. Finally, the trunk needs to be a bit rounded at the bottom.

The Color

For coloring, you need to know how to shade to make things look cool. Basically, you want to make the parts that would be dark in real life darker with a pencil orcolored pencil. That means outlines, things that are under other things, and things at the bottom should be colored more. Make it look natural as best as you can.

For this card, use different colors to make it pop. For example, in the card I made, I made one tree have blue. I made another tree more of a yellowish color. Experiment with different decorations for the tree. I did one with tinsel, ornaments, and snowflakes. Just remember to draw ornaments on the tree before you start coloring! Also, I’m using Crayola erasable colored pencils (affiliate) because I’m a human who makes mistakes. Ok, that’s all you need to know. Let’s dive in!

How to Draw an Incredibly Easy Christmas Tree for Cards

Materials:

  • A piece of paper
  • A pencil
  • Crayola Erasable Colored Pencil Pack
  • Eraser
  1. First, gather all of your materials. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil, Crayola erasable colored pencils (affiliate), and an eraser, just in case. Also, plan your design and text for the card. Do you want it to say “Merry Christmas”? Do you want any decorations on the tree? That’s what you will plan.
  2. Then, draw a triangle top and draw three half-circles on the bottom connected to it. Draw two lines coming from the two dips of the top triangle. Draw four half-circles under it. Do the same thing, but with five circles. Make it look something like this ⬇
  3. Ok, now, draw the tree trunk. Draw two straight lines coming from the middle of the bottom tree layer. Connect the two with a slightly rounded bottom. Add a rounded line to the side to make it look sorta 3d. Draw ornaments if you are adding them. Make it look something like this picture ⬇
  4. So, it’s time to color! First, start with the jade green color. Color from the top of each layer to the bottom in lines. Leave a bit of white at the bottom so it looks like snow. Layer on yellow green. Color more on the tops of each layer, but leave the bottom less colored. At the very tops of each tree layer, add on regular green. Remember to color up and down and from the top, middle point of each layer down.
  5. Next, color the tree trunk. Start with the lightest brown, then color the paper that touches the bottom of the tree and the 3d part with the next darkest brown. With the darkest brown that comes with the set, add light, squiggly lines that look like the tree’s bark pattern. Add a star on top. You know those star doodles that we make on our papers during boring video lectures? Yeah, make one of those with the golden yellow color. After that, color it in and outline it with a pencil.
  6. Finally, color the decorations on the tree! Remember to do a dark outline and lighter center if you did ornaments. I did a tinsel on my tree. Repeat all of these steps until you get the number of Christmas trees you want. I drew three on this card. Write your message, remember to sign your name, and that’s it! You just drew a Christmas tree card! So, I hope you had fun!
