Welcome to the Best Spiced Nut Recipe! Yes, it is the best one out there. I’m sharing this recipe with you because of how much I love it. This recipe is just amazing! It’s easy and delicious. I think these spiced nuts taste just like the Buc-ee’s ones, but that’s just my opinion. They are great for fall and winter. I make these every year for autumn and Christmas. They’re that easy and amazing! Before you make this recipe, let me tell you why and how!

Why Make these Spiced Nuts?

Why make these spiced nuts? Well, this recipe is actually from my grandmother’s church cookbook! It’s a tried-and-true recipe that’s been around for a long time. My grandma used to give these spiced nuts to people as gifts every Christmas. Everyone who’s ever tried these spiced nuts has absolutely loved them! I think you will too!

How To Make this Recipe

This easy recipe starts with you greasing a medium-sized pot. This is important because the sugar can get stuck to the pan if you don’t! Also, prepare a greased plate to transfer the nuts to later. In the greased pot, combine water, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Make sure all the sugar dissolves.

When the sugar-cinnamon-water comes to a rolling boil, add the walnuts. You’ll know it’s at a rolling boil when the mixture is bubbly and boiling very quickly. When you fold in the nuts, the sugar-water will cool down and stop boiling. You want to bring it back up to a rolling boil.

When it’s back at a rolling boil, take the nuts off the heat, stirring constantly. When mixing, always make sure to scoop from underneath to avoid breaking the walnuts. Mix in the vanilla now. When no more liquid pools at the bottom and all is crystallized, transfer to the greased plate.

Let the spiced nuts cool. This should only take about five minutes, so wait because they are way better cooled. You can place them in a fancy pumpkin dish as decoration or enjoy right away!

Why Add Vanilla?

The original recipe from the church cookbook doesn’t have vanilla, but I was experimenting one day and decided to add it. It definitely brings this recipe up a notch! It makes these basic spiced nuts taste like the Buc-ee’s ones! Don’t skip it!

Normally, you don’t put vanilla over the stove, so make sure to add it at the end after you take it off the heat!

How to Gift

To give these spiced nuts as a Christmas gift like my grandmother did, place a paper towel at the bottom of one of those Christmas metal tins. Place as many spiced nuts as you want to give inside. Place the lid on top, and store it in a dark, cool place. Have fun gifting these spiced nuts!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add any other flavorings, like orange oil for Christmas? You can certainly try! If you try adding any other flavorings in addition to vanilla, like orange oil, please tell me if it works!

Can I use any nuts other than walnuts? Pecans and almonds would work, but I’m not sure about peanuts. If you do try peanuts, you would have to be gentle and break them apart really well after they’re done. Also, make sure to measure accurately.

How long can I keep these for? You can keep these as long as they aren’t stale, but I think that they’ll be gone in a day. If you need to keep these for a long time, keep them sealed in a plastic container in a dark, cool space.
