I Made A Beautiful Cake With Natural Dyes

Do you like decorating cakes like me, but don’t like artificial food dyes? If so, then read more!

My mom’s birthday was yesterday. I’m still an amateur cake decorator, so I like simpler cake designs. I saw a cute cake design on YouTube and knew that it would be perfect for my mom. The design includes a cake with a slice labeled, “Mom’s Slice.” Mom’s Slice is decorated with pretty flowers. It would challenge me, but it would be a lot of fun to make! At my house, we do NOT like food coloring. Because of this, I didn’t use food dyes in the birthday cake. I’m so surprised at how good it turned out, even though I don’t use food dye! I made a beautiful cake with natural dyes 😁! Let me show you how.

As you can see in the cake above, it has a vibrant pink bottom border, messy flowers (it’s my first time piping flowers on a cake), a blue top border, and a green background (you can’t really tell that it’s green in the photo, but it’s green). I wrote, “Mom’s slice,” and outlined the slice in brown. The cake is a chocolate cake. I made the background icing color green to look like grass with flowers. The chocolate cake is supposed to look like the dirt under the grass. The icing tastes like orange, thanks to food-grade essential oils. I’ll show you how I made those vibrant colors.

I used Watkins food dye for the blue roses and green background. Click here (affiliate link alert! That means when you buy from that link, I’ll get a small reward with no extra cost to you!) to buy it! It doesn’t have artificial colors. The blue is colored by spirulina extract. The green is colored by spirulina extract and turmeric.

Blue is very rare in nature! Getting natural blue food dye is really hard! However, there are these protists called spirulina that have a blue-green pigment. It’s safe for humans to eat, and it is a very nice color. Protista is one of the living kingdoms. This kingdom is basically the miscellaneous pile of organisms. Protists are usually found in water. Beets and Turmeric

I used a beet to make that vibrant pink color. I did it by cutting a beet into cubes. Then, I mixed the cubes into the icing and fished them out after mixing. I cut new beet cubes and did the same thing until I got the perfect color. I’ve never tried using bottled beet juice before. If you’ve ever put beet juice in icing, tell me how it went in the comments.

Turmeric is a great natural food dye! As a girl who lives in an Indian household, I always have turmeric. I use turmeric to make icing yellow. All I have to say is, MAKE SURE YOU DON’T PUT TOO MUCH! YOUR CAKE COULD TASTE LIKE TURMERIC!!! 😨

Cocoa Powder Brown

Obviously, if you want brown icing, use cocoa powder. This is great for writing on cakes, like I did. I wanted a pastel brown, but you can put more to make it more noticeable for writing on cakes.

My mom loved her cake! She thought that it was cute and delicious. She had a very special birthday. So, that’s how I made a beautiful cake with natural dyes 😏😂😉! Bye, girlies!
