Welcome to Fun Fact Weekend: Sunday Day Three (final day)! Today is the last day of this series. On Friday, I shared ten fun facts about American History that I learned in school. Then yesterday, I shared ten fun facts about biology. Finally, today, I will share ten random fun facts that I’ve learned this school year!
I chose today to share the miscellaneous pile of fun facts that I learned at school. This includes world history, chemistry, and more! I hope that you’ve enjoyed this series and also learned a lot! Are you ready for the final ten fun facts of the series?! Let’s start!
Random Fun Fact #1:

Ice cream was invented in China! They mixed rice, milk, and snow to create a cold treat for the nobles and emperors. Then, Marco Polo took this invention to Europe. So, this is how we got modern ice cream!
Random Fun Fact #2:
On Christmas in 1914, soldiers fighting on the Western Front were tired of fighting. Many thought that WWI would be over by Christmas. Because of this, they had a Christmas truce. Enemies shook hands, sang carols, and even exchanged gifts! However, this soon stopped because leaders thought it was dangerous to make their enemies friends. After that, there were no more Christmas truces during the war.
Random Fun Fact #3:
Table salt is made of two elements that are dangerous on their own: sodium and chlorine. When sodium and chlorine bond together to form an ionic bond, they create table salt! This is the result of a chemical reaction. Next time you put salt on your food, remember how a chemical reaction turned dangerous elements into safe table salt.
Random Fun Fact #4:

Venus is about 67 million miles away from the Sun 😏. I thought that was funny. Earth is about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) away from the Sun. This distance is called an AU. It’s a measurement based on Earth’s distance from the Sun.
Random Fun Fact #5:
The ice cream cone was invented at the 1904 St. Louis World Fair. People say that an ice cream vendor ran out of containers, so a waffle vendor helped out. The waffles vendor turned waffles into cones to hold ice cream. This invention quickly spread throughout America. So, that’s how the waffle cone was made.
Random Fun Fact #6:

Diamonds are made entirely of carbon! Carbon atoms can form different types of structures. In diamonds, they’re arranged into a crystal lattice. So, this makes them super durable and sparkly.
Random Fun Fact #7:

Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue? Let me tell you! So, there are these particles in the sky. They could be dust or water vapor. Light is made of all the colors. When light from the sun hits these particles, the longer waves, like red, orange, yellow, and green, just pass through. However, blue and violet light waves hit these particles and scatter everywhere. Our eyes don’t see violet well, so we see the sky as blue.
Random Fun Fact #8:
The closest galaxy to our galaxy, the Milky Way, is Andromeda. You can actually see Andromeda on the horizon with a pair of binoculars at night. Scientists estimate that the Milky Way and Andromeda will merge in billions of years, but Jesus is coming back soon.
Random Fun Fact #9:
The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the ocean. It’s so salty and has chemical vents on the ocean floor! Somehow, organisms can still live in this extreme place! Scientists actually know more about space than the ocean depths. That’s crazy.
Random Fun Fact #10: (last fun fact of the series!!!)

The Sun releases energy through a process called nuclear fusion. This happens in the core of the Sun. Under a lot of heat and pressure, hydrogen atoms’ nuclei fuse to form helium atoms. This process produces the sunlight energy that plants use for photosynthesis. So, this is how we get tasty fruit to enjoy!
